I constantly forget that Iron Man 3 happened before Avengers 2 and Civil War. It has such an important story arc for Stark, he shows so much character development, and then it just clearly hasn't happened in any of the other movies.
My brain can make sense of him trying to replace a whole hall full of iterative armor variations with a container of nanomachines he can tinker with as needed and try to justify that to himself as a compromise, post-IM3, then reluctantly get involved in superheroics b/c stakes.
But it just doesn't work for me, to remember that he processed stuff and grew and got rid of the hall of armor, and then did all that other stuff. My mind rebels.
For me, this is a metaphor for why I don't read more comics. Whenever I get into a character and their story... they get drafted into some big Summer Crossover Event and their whole deal gets refitted for the needs of that.

And I say this as someone who loves the impact and scope and scale of the three big crossover Marvel movies (Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame). In Endgame, I was sobbing from "On your left" until after the credits. So happy. I didn't know I cared about "Avengers Assemble"!
But a lot of what I liked most about Endgame was what grew out of, respected, and called back to what came before. "On your left." Black Panther calling Hawkeye "Clint" (note that everybody else calls him *Barton*, but he tried to introduce himself mid-fight in Civil War!)
"Hi, I'm Clint!"

"I don't care."

But years later... he remembered.
And that's like Easter egg-y levels of detail but it shows thought and care.
I don't think Stark was terrible in Endgame, if you write off his rant in the first act as a man who is traumatized and near death lashing out. He ends up being more like a post-Iron Man-trilogy version of himself than he was in any other crossover movie, in my opinion.
