If you listen to 2nd Amendment thumpers they’re all hinting at New World Order conspiracy theories, a quiet nod toward the need for citizens to fight a totalitarian force. In this they’re signaling to religious extremists while not endangering their mainstream credibility.
It’s just another instance of the cult at the heart of the GOP, a white identity Christianity fueled by paranoia that minorities and white traitors are aligned with Satan to bring down God’s chosen people.
I’ve taken to calling them the Cult of the Shining City as their dogma is a mixture of white supremacy and Reagan’s occult-riddled vision of America as the product of generations of secret society planning by white philosophers.
The Cult of the Shining City is what birthed Trumpism and was used for decades to manipulate working class whites to support top-down economics. Unfortunately it’s grown and mutated into a dangerous, deranged body that is ripe for a true-believer cult leader.
These nods to gun control as a step toward a New World Order are carefully orchestrated. They’re signals to a convoluted narrative that any movement on guns is the beginning of a Satanic collapse into a Hell-on-Earth, supernatural, totalitarian government.
For believers, this is the End Times, the apocalypse, and when Republicans tell them it’s guns or Hell, they believe it, and they’re ready to fight to the death. They’ve been preparing for decades for this fight, and the signals are extremely dangerous.
What’s worse, while Republicans stoke the paranoia and fear, businesses emerge to profit off them. This is what the NRA has done. Weapons companies. Prepper companies. And with each purchase they’re selling the fantasy and the weapons and gear to live it out.
So, when they touts gun rights as a means to fight an insurgent campaign, many hear him and understand they’re a soldier in a war. These mass shootings, these attacks, they’re actions taken in a fictional war in a fictional crisis.
New World Order narratives, Shining City cult members, a fictional, invisible war...it sounds outlandish, but it’s what’s happening. If you grew up in this, if your family is steeped in it, you recognize it fast. Everyone else needs to catch up.
