1/ Tesla surprised everyone in late 2012 with the announcement it was building a global supercharger network. That announcement, along with good take rates on S sales, sent the stock rocketing from $30-$130.
2/ Remember back then no one knew what demand really was for EVs, nor how buyers would use them. Tesla's supercharger announcement was viewed as a stroke of genius that would eliminate a roadblock to EV adoption: range anxiety.
3/ Fast forward to 2019 and the Teslemming's mocking focus on the lower range of the Taycan as a negative.

Most car use, including EVs, occurs within 30 miles of an owner's home.
4/ The supercharger buildout, viewed early on as a competitive moat by the restructuring expert Adam Jonas, will prove to be one of Tesla's most egregious examples of squandered capital. The Nissan Leaf doesnt have a supercharger network and it is the best-selling EV in history.
5/ The supercharger buildout shocked the auto world and helped create Musk's halo as a forward thinker. In the end, it will prove to be yet another example of his impulsive management style and stupid decision-making not grounded by any empirical data.
These superchargers are constant reminders of the flaws in green energy policy: it's nothing more than greedy wealthy people looking for free stuff paid for by others.
