Curious to see whether all the Very Serious Wonks who think it's impossible to guarantee everyone a job are going to offer similar No-We-Cant-ist takes on the new (and fantastic) Homes Guarantee proposal, or whether the only economic right they think cannot be guaranteed is work.
Its funny, because I never hear Job Guarantee skeptics arguing that it was a mistake to enact a right to universal k-12 education, or that we should abandon the right to legal counsel for criminal defendants. Yet these are also extremely complex, nuanced administrative challenges
It's almost like even progressives who purport to be skeptical of naturalizing right-wing economic narratives about value and prices suddenly revert to an essentialist notion of "real work" the minute someone suggests everyone has the capacity to contribute to society.

Sad!
"Legal rights are a liberal construct, what we need is to build political power", they argue, while protesting in favor of "Medicare for All".

Luckily, the latter will provide them with all the tylenol they need to deal with their cognitive dissonance, which must be deafening.
You know why? Because under a Medicare for All system, it will be their *right* to receive medical care, for free.

Crazy how those pesky legal rights seem to pop up everywhere, isn't it.
