This is a thread, and Public Service Announcement- It might help you save a life (even your own).

Exactly a year ago, my cousins Rediet and Bereket were driving our uncle Seife to the airport. My uncle Seife spent his vacation in Ethiopia with his wife and kids. (1/12)
They were headed to the airport to return to Germany. His wife and kids were in another car.
At the airport, all arrived except for Seife, Rediet and Bereket. No one picked up the phone despite many calls. (2/12)
All suspicious of the worst-case scenario, they roamed through the streets of Addis Ababa in all different routes, trying to find them. As one family described it, they came across people gathered in the backdrop of loud sirens, bright blue/red lights, and ambulances. (3/12)
Women were beating their chests and most looked terrified. A Sino truck had overturned with all the dirt on my cousin’s car, and people/first responders were trying to extricate all three of them. Despite all the efforts, all 3 of them died at the scene. (4/12)
My aunt lost her all her kids and her brother in this fatal accident.
A year later, I decided to share here because it’s the right thing to do for many reasons. We witness many fatal accidents every day.  (5/12)
As an emergency doctor, I have had to announce terrible news to many families but never thought I would be on the other side. As you all can imagine, it has been difficult for all. The parents have been brave to tell their stories. (6/12)
As a doctor,I asked so many “what ifs,” but as a human being, I continue to mourn. I implore everyone to do your part in preventing such fatal crashes & advocating for robust post-crash care. You could save a life, & I pray that it will not happen to any of you or family. (7/12)
Things you can do as an individual
1. Make way for ambulances and responders - every second matter in Emergency.
2. Prevention - Traffic rules and regulations are in place to protect you and others.  Simple but important
    * Don’t drive and drink (Just don’t!)

    (8/12)
* Red light means stop - ALL THE TIME -  (Doesn’t matter day or night)
3. Unnecessary speeding = Endangering your life (others)!
4. Wear your seatbelts, whether you are the driver or not!
(9/12)
5. If you are not a trained first responder, please don’t stop at the accident scene and cause the unnecessary car or human traffic.
6. Make way for police officers, ambulances and first responders. Every minute and second matters.

(10/12)
Their parents are establishing an orphanage in their legacy, and I leave you with the quote their parents shared “Sometimes the very worst times in our life put us on a direct path to the very best times in our life.”
(11/12)
Rest In Peace my dear Rediet, Bereket and Seife. Will work for your legacy
