btw, they are fantastic kids from near my old hood. Both already graduated, and got their Thor locks buzzed to raise $15k for UI Children's Hospital; their hair was used to make wigs for pediatric cancer patients. #GoHawkeyes

We're gonna be sharing back w/ directly impacted folks in the coming weeks but given that the new rules go into effect today & the persistent misinformation being spread, thought I'd share my interpretation of it all.
2/ Speaking of misinformation, this @statesman headline today feeds into the biggest lie being told about the new rules.

In fact, people won't be allowed to tent camp on sidewalks if it blocks passage or makes use of it unreasonably inconvenient.

Look I'm not the Writing Police. If you, Fellow White Author, want to write a fantasy world based on China or Japan or India I obviously can't stop you. But I can say you might not be making the best choice and there are other ways to be different
I can say the amount of research & sensitivity readings you'll need to have done in order to not produce a harmful mess is IMMENSE. I can say the publishing industry is more apt to promote a white author writing about a non-white culture than an actual member of that culture
