The lecture on Islamophobia by @BristolUni's Professor Miller referred to in the @Telegraph story was the subject of a complaint from CST in March as it contained serious untrue allegations about CST. Despite repeated efforts to engage our complaint remains unresolved /1
The lecture included this slide showing mainstream UK Jewish orgs & individuals in a network under "Israel government". In context of a lecture about Islamophobia this echoes conspiracy & dual loyalty tropes. It is extremely disturbing that this was taught to students /2
Here is the first part of the CST complaint letter to @BristolUni regarding Professor Miller’s lecture on Islamophobia /3
Here is the rest of the CST complaint letter /4
Slides from the lecture’s PowerPoint suggest CST is part of “Pillar of Islamophobia” in a network including extreme right wing groups. This is a disgraceful, wholly untrue slur against CST that we completely reject /5
CST is a UK Jewish charity that protects British Jews from antisemitism & terrorism. We do not lobby for Israel: it is wrong to describe CST’s work as that of an “Israel lobby group” as this slide does, or to conflate combating antisemitism in the UK with pro-Israel lobbying /6
CST works extensively with Muslim organisations, police and government to combat anti-Muslim hate crime and we advise mosques on security. We do this for all faith communities and gladly share our expertise cst.org.uk/news/latest-ne… /7
CST has repeatedly condemned anti-Muslim prejudice and has warned Jews against falling for anti-Muslim scapegoating, whether here, in Israel or anywhere else. For example this recent letter in @JewishChron with @BoardofDeputies & @JLC_uk against Katie Hopkins /8
.@BristolUni refuse to accept CST’s complaint because they say we are a “third party” - but the lecture included untrue claims about CST. They refuse to let CST act on behalf of students who want to remain anonymous, despite this being common practice in the hate crime field /9
The Jewish students who gave testimony to CST were distressed and frightened, as the extracts in our letter show. They insisted they do not want their identities revealed to anyone. That is their right and it should be fully respected by @BristolUni /10
It is unacceptable that any students – Jewish or not – should be taught such an error-strewn & potentially damaging lecture. We asked @BristolUni to contact students & correct what they were told. We asked for reassurance the lecture won’t be repeated. We are still waiting. /11
