France is not going to veto an extension request. The EU may not give us the length we ask for, or they may - somehow, it's murky - try to apply conditions, but they will extend.
There will be saber-rattling ahead of the summit from Macron. But in the end, the extension will be granted. The EU is not going to throw out a member against its will in a way that devastates another member (Ireland).
And although Macron will make noise, he's not going to position himself into taking the blame for a no-deal Brexit, which is what a veto would entail.
I think it's also clear to the EU that an election would take place immediately after extension, so their desire for there to be a point to it will be fulfilled regardless of attempted conditions.
