For some reason, this relatively minor story is one of my pedantic pet peeves. It is simply not true that conservative twitter freaked out over that AOC video. It. Never. Happened.
I point this out because we have a serious investment in understanding what the right is up to. Not a fantastical and invented version of the right that makes us feel good about ourselves, but a clear-eyed, accurate vision of the right.
To my mind, the lesson of that day of the AOC dancing video, is that the left got owned by a shitposter who drew our attention away from the nasty racism of conservatives who have huge platforms and the President's attention.
The AOC dancing video seemed to have touched off a phenomenon that has exploded this past year. Some rando posts something that sounds like "a stupid thing said by a conservative" and left twitter ratios it to death. As if that wasn't the post's goal.
