For anyone trying a “boys will be boys”/“this happened decades ago” defense of Kavanaugh, the clearly impeachable offense is that he almost certainly perjured himself multiple times during his confirmation hearings

The thought that this provokes is: Nah
The question isn’t whether there is a “progressive majority,” because demographics and polls both show this to exist (albeit not in a continuum across all issues). It’s whether that majority can be motivated to come out at scale, despite massive vote suppression by GOP machines.
This kind of ideation pushes the idea that Democrats can only run and win with moderates, while Republicans run more and more extreme and partisan candidates. It is, in and of itself, amazingly regressive.

Why I think #Kavanaugh is lying:
1. Dr. Ford's sessions with a therapist where she named him and the boys with him happened six years ago.
2. Brett Kavanaugh's calendar proves he went to parties with Mark Judge and P.J. - Dr. Ford named these two men BEFORE his calendar was made public. If she didn't "hang in the same circles" as Brett Kavanaugh, how would she know this?
3. Brett Kavanaugh testified that he and Dr. Ford (Christine Blasey - a 15 year old teenager - at the time) did not "travel in the same social circles."

He was friends with young women from similar backgrounds. Who attended private, Catholic girls schools.

If Rs confirm Kavanaugh they’re betting it’ll have no major impact on the midterms, that none of the allegations and/or perjuries will pose problems for him when Dems take control & conduct real investigations including subpoenaing Judge, and that there’ll be no new allegations.
This, in a nutshell, is why I’ve been so bearish on his chances. I’m very familiar with Republicans’ power-above-all-else approach. But even from that perspective, it seems like a highly questionable proposition at best - especially when there are other options.
Installing a Justice facing multiple credible allegations of assault who also appears to have perjured himself multiple times right before handing subpoena power & maybe control of the nominations process to Dems is like, the opposite of holding the Garland seat open for a year.

I'm a sociologist who studies adolescent sexual violence. On this thread, I will be live tweeting the #Kavanaugh hearing, chiming in with sociological insights and research findings.
Full disclosure--I will probably step away for parts of it. While many conservatives have cast feminists as people who rejoice at allegations of sexual assault against powerful men, this is a painful process for us. We know survivors. We are survivors. And I will need breaks.
It does not bode well that the beginning of this hearing is starting with equating #Kavanaugh and #Ford's experiences with harassment following Dr. Ford's allegations. They are absolutely not the same.
