The Wolf Who Cried "Oh, Boy"

Why Pelosi's plan for "self-impeachment" is doomed to failure.

And I know, I know. "Because there's no such thing as self-impeachment." Pelosi was never pretending there was. She was using a metaphor to sum up the idea that he could discredit himself so thoroughly in the eyes of the voters that he couldn't possibly win.
The problem with this is twofold.

One is that Pelosi is still relying on the idea that at some point Trump will realize he's caught and give up. Even if he doesn't resign, he'd sheepishly stop defending himself with lies. He'd have to! How could he not? It'd be unthinkable!
Trump regularly does things that others deem unthinkable. In his mind, it's a legitimate superpower. How could he not give up when caught with his hand in the cookie jar?

It's easy.

He just... doesn't give up.
He shouts that it's his cookie jar, it's not his hand, it's your hand, there were never any cookies, and anyway everybody steals cookies all the time so he'd be a sucker not to get his.
Because most of us do operate on the level where it's basically unthinkable to keep going when you get badly caught, the fact that he keeps going reads as a point in his favor.

Which brings me to the other mistaken assumption Pelosi's making, the subject of my newsletter.
