Now up: @JulianCastro ! He is starting remarks talking about his family history of organizing in the Chicano movement. #ThePeoplesForum
On Medicare For All: "I want to be very straightforward with folks," Castro said. I believe we should base our system off of Medicare. If someone wants to have a private health insurance plan, they should be allowed to have one." A few folks in the crowd booed.
Jackie Torres Toro, from Honduras, told the story of immigrating with her son, who has epilepsy, to the United States. She spoke through a translator to Castro. "I live with the fear of being deported back to Honduras to my death," she said.
Castro apologized to her in Spanish.
Standing ovation for @JulianCastro at #ThePeoplesForum for his answer on immigration.
Tiana Caldwell with KC Tenants asked Castro for a Homes Guarantee, and "how your approach would be different than when you were HUD secretary." Castro said that he was proud of a lot of the work he did in Obama's administration, but there's a lot of work to be done.
"There are some differences between what the homes guarantee is and what my plan is. I don't want to sugar coat that." @JulianCastro said. But he said he believes his housing plan will end homeless and help improve housing in the US. issues.juliancastro.com/people-first-h…

Now up: @BernieSanders. First candidate who got a standing ovation for his entrance (and some for his opening remarks).
Sanders talked about his plans for free college and student debt forgiveness. He said four years ago when he floated this idea, people thought he was insane.
"Education is a human right and college should be available to all people regardless of income. That's how we win."
"Let me begin by apologizing to you as a United States Senator." Sanders tells Juliza de Cortes, who traveled for six months on foot while pregnant to come to the US.
He also got standing cheers for saying he would end ICE raids.

Now up: @PeteButtigieg at #ThePeoplesForum !
Activists pushing Buttigieg on putting a moratorium on factory farms to help improve water quality.
Buttigieg said the federal government needs to revisit the “master matrix” on regulating farms for sustainability. #ThePeoplesForum
Yells of “Medicare for All” from the crowd drowning out a follow-up on his health care answer. Pete Buttigieg said he wants to give a public option, but not eliminate private insurance.
CCI organizers are questioning Buttigieg on his handling of the police shooting in South Bend, Indiana and dealing w/racial profiling in Iowa.
“You should never feel fear from an encounter with a police officer,” Buttigieg said.
“You ain’t black!” someone in the crowd yells back.
Another fairly tense interaction between Buttigieg and organizers, who are pushing him on free college for all. Buttigieg says he supports debt-free college, but not subsidizing all college which he says would benefit the wealthy.
(apologies if this is a weird cut, Twitter time limits)
Tom Rendon with @CCIAction giving the closing remarks (and throwing some shade at the Steak Fry)
“You did not eat any steak,” he said. “This is not pay-to-play.”
