Instinctive journo take is 'this helps Johnson portray himself as against the establishment'. Well, maybe, maybe not. It's just possible people do value the rule of law and parliamentary democracy, regardless of their views on Brexit.
Or even that they are just a bit turned off by the chaotic spasms of Johnson's various failed attacks.
But even if that were not the case: What exactly is your alternative? That the basic democratic structure which we operate under cease to function from fear of populist rhetoric? Fuck that mate.
This is a no-holds-barred fight for the manner in which our politics operates. And that fight isn't won by constantly throwing up our hands and surrendering. It's won by standing up for liberal representative democracy.
