Majority of House Democrats already on record backing impeachment proceedings. Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker who is skeptical and has been the key blockage, is reportedly sounding people out in last 48 hours.
Here's John Lewis, famous civil rights campaigner + widely respected congressman, a few moments ago calling for impeachment to begin. "We cannot delay. We must not wait. Now is the time to act."
Joe Biden, who has largely held back on impeachment, is about to announce support for the move if Trump won't deal with Congress, according to HuffPo. Most other leading 2020 candidates already back impeachment.

CNN says 156 of 235 Democrats in the House back some form of impeachment action. NBC's count has it at 165.

For a long time the argument against impeachment for Pelosi has been that the public oppose it and it could harm re-election chances for congressmen in Trumpy districts.
