Managed to talk about Invisible Women by @CCriadoPerez at work today. Conversation touched on women doing more in the home and other issues so I mentioned the impact of Swedish snowploughing on women to mild scoffs. Scoffing stopped by the time I was done. :D 1/5
Talked about indirect discrimination, was asked about the difference between direct and indirect, then asked how policies can be discrimination-proofed so explained #EqualityImpactAssessments. 2/5
That led to being asked about whether there is a checklist (no official one as such) for policy planning, and gave an example of a consultation I took part in to make an EIA for a building move by an organisation I do some work for. 3/5
Finished up with the importance of #diversity in planning groups so that as many protected characteristics, viewpoints and life experiences can be taken into account as possible. Do it right to start with and people don't have to fight for improvements. 4/5
After, one of my colleagues thanked me for helping him understand discrimination and importance of diversity because he's a white middle-aged man who never has to think about it. We have a new supporter! 5/5
