There's virtually no one out there who hasn't at some point done the OK hand gesture. You now have the means to cancel literally anyone you don't like.
Next 4chan is going to troll with the "live long and prosper" hand signal 🖖🏽. Then the SPLC will add it to its collection of hate symbols and now Vulcans are canceled.

I too was very disturbed by the less-than-flattering portrayal of Mexican child sex traffickers.
Also violence, in a Rambo movie?
My one complaint about the movie is without the long hair I can't help but see Rocky instead.

And they've given us so many reasons to trust them implicitly so far.
The people who were caught leaving out exculpatory details in their reporting expect us to take them at their word about what happened in a private conversation.
They know Kavanaugh is not going to respond. So they can say whatever they want or twist his words however they want.

I trust the author honestly didn't know about the white supremacy associations. She deleted her tweet in response to Marcy's note.

The OK symbol (👌🏽) was perfectly innocent until recently. Cartoon frogs were fun a few years before that. And the swastika was a spiritual symbol until the 1930s. (Yes, I went there.)

But when hate groups co-opt a symbol or name, the rest of us need to adjust our usage.

Because the targets of hate can't afford to give a stranger the benefit of the doubt.

And in our online lives, most of the people we interact with are at least partially strangers. We only see one side of them, and must judge by hints & clues of their underlying thoughts.

I want to give you some sense of what it’s like to spend a lot of time under threat. Hopefully it’s not something you’ve experienced. I have, for almost this entire academic year, and I’d like to let you in on it. So here’s a thread:
Basically, since October, I’ve faced a series of threats from prominent members of the Nebraska Republican apparatus. It began with a threatening phone call from @JeffFortenberry’s Chief of Staff, which led to national media exposure, but has continued to the present.
At the moment, IT professionals from @u_nebraska are searching my email, going back to August 2017, looking for any mention of a person’s name or @TPUSA. This is in response to a public records request made by a lawyer representing that person, not that organization.

A short thread on how NOT to shift #culture

1) Weak leadership - enough said.
2) A vision that has been written by a few and adopted by the few that wrote it. It's understood by no-one.
3) A mission that is known by a select group who when questioned, don't know it. The school are certainly none the wiser. It's a mission that impresses from the outside looking in but is meaningless to the inside ones looking out.

Let us tell you a little bit about how the hand gesture in front of @kanyewest is tied to white nationalism and the alt-right.
Last year, there was an uproar from the digital community keeping tabs on the spread of white nationalism when a White House intern made the OK symbol we now see in front of @kanyewest.
Immediately, media outlets sought out to investigate how the digital community had come to these conclusions, given that the OK symbol seemed to be universally tame. washingtontimes.com/news/2017/dec/…
