When the House launched its formal impeachment hearings against Nixon in February 1974, only 38% of Americans supported it.

Today, polling shows that 49% of Americans support launching formal impeachment hearings against Trump.

In the Watergate investigation, which took place not just in those formal impeachment hearings but in separate congressional inquiries too, the case for impeachment was made methodically.

Televised hearings aired the evidence and turned public opinion.

The result of the methodical case against Nixon & his men was the resignation of the president, the resignation of the vice president for an unrelated scandal, and the imprisonment of his former attorney general and several top White House aides.

It was a marathon, not a sprint.

Trump took over the pageant in 1996. Here's the list of winners and their countries from that point to today.
It's a stupid, meaningless lie but it's a reminder that you really do need to fact-check every single thing he says.

If this is true, this strikes me as a serious misstep.

The House needs to hold extensive televised hearings to lay out the evidence and make the case for impeachment before they hold the actual vote.
I've been urging Pelosi to move ahead, but the hearings are the key, not the vote. They shouldn't rush this.
Look to the Senate Select Committee hearings in Watergate, and how much they moved the needle on public opinion and congressional opinion on removing Nixon:

House Democrats are trying to drum up excuses to draft impeachment articles against President Trump by fall. Leftist activist groups are planning to up the pressure on lawmakers with regular mass pro-impeachment protests across the country.
Unfortunately, the right does not have anywhere near the level of activist groups as the Left has and the Left's mob activism DOES have political sway. What would it take for Conservatives to get out from behind their computers and counter-protest these Leftist maniacs en masse?
Would Democrats holding formal impeachment hearings against President Trump. when he's done nothing even close to meeting the requirements for impeachment, be enough to get you away from your computer and phone to participate in counter-protests to show support for our President?

If you could get in a time machine and ask young fighting people in WWII, “Would you rather be shot at by Nazis or sitting in a classroom not being shot at by Nazis?”, you’d find that yesterday’s kids have the same preferences as today’s kids.

Continued dithering by Dem leaders on impeaching Trump has had an extremely damaging effect on the power of #impeachment to protect the rule of law.

They thought it would strengthen their hand to appear reluctant, but waffling has had the opposite effect.
I hate to say this, but I increasingly believe that #impeachment will be far less effective now than it would have been out of the gate in January.

Mealy-mouthed Dem excuses for inaction have telegraphed to the public that impeachment is entirely a partisan political calculus.
Just to be clear: I believe more strongly than ever that Dems should #impeach NOW. And it isn't about Mueller. Incitement of violence against the press is enough. What this thread is saying is that #impeachment will have less teeth than it would have a few months ago.
