A Brexit deal with a transition period is like an amicable separation. You agree to divorce, but you can keep sleeping in the spare bedroom until you find your feet. A no deal Brexit is like running out of the house in the middle of the night with nothing but your pyjamas.
Both are disruptive compared to your old life together. But one is much, much more disruptive than the other.
No deal, I might add, is like running out of the house unprepared for no apparent reason. Nothing makes that particular night any different from any other night, except that you decided it would be when you scarpered. No external impetus is forcing you to run away then.
