The #Brexit that is being implemented is not the one that was sold to the people. As it becomes even clearer that the Leave Campaign misled the electorate, the public must be granted a vote on the deal. Each day this week I will be outlining a broken promise from the gvt.
‘The UK will not be paying into the EU after March 2019.’ The Gvt. have conceded the UK will pay a divorce bill of around £40bn, with payments continuing until 2064 & the PM says the UK should make an ‘appropriate financial contribution’ for participation in EU agencies.
‘The UK will not have to abide by EU rules during transition’. The reality is that the UK will have to abide by all EU rules and regulations including those agreed by member states during transition.
‘The UK will ‘take back control’ of fisheries policy.’ The UK has backed down after the EU made access to UK waters on existing terms throughout the transition period a red line.
‘Free movement will end in March 2019’. Ministers now accept that free movement will continue during transition, with the only difference being the implementation of a new registration scheme which could have been done as an EU member state.
‘The UK will have new trade deals ready to come into force on 29 March 2019’. The UK won’t have any new trade deals ready to sign because there won’t be time to negotiate them until we leave the EU. We may also lose some of the deals we now enjoy with 65 countries worldwide.
‘The transition period would last for two years and should not be time limited’. The Gvt. has agreed to a fixed transition period of just 21 months. This only extends the #Brexit cliff-edge until 1 Jan 2021, which is no way long enough to negotiate the future relationship.
