Getting a little closer, digging through the folders. Her maiden name was Catherine Rogers - her brother John is pictured here. She married Isaac Brown
Their daughter was Permelia Brown - right - who married my GGGrandfather - left - when he came home from the Civil War - she liked him because he was kind to animals, especially his horse (he'd been a cavalryman) and she surmised he'd be kind to her.
Dammit, y'all, I'm supposed to be cleaning my gutters. Now I'm reading my great-uncle's journal from 1942. He commanded an OHARNG FA battalion in the Pacific:
"March 30, 1942. Kiss wife goodbye. Both hold up ok but the feeling in my throat matches the moisture in her eyes"
