When @politico_il gets it wrong - you have to hand it to them - they get it REALLY wrong. Unfortunately not fact checking the talking points from the Mayor’s office misleads the public too. (Sigh) let’s dive in: #Twill
For starters, no @politico_il CPS has not agreed to yet another 200 social workers as your post implies. 
In fact if you read the new CPS website you can clearly see the words “earlier this summer” when describing the social work offer. Why would you say there is a new offer - offering 200 more @politico_il ?
But there is more, there is no recommendation that says one to 220. It is 1 to 250. I should know, my employer wrote that standard. However the even greater journalistic malpractice revolves around that 800M error...
You wrote “the cost (to get social workers to the recommend ratio) would be an unfeasible 800M.” Let’s check the math. 800M social workers at 100k (what CPS website is budgeting for them -includes benefits) equals 8k social workers.
That would be amazing @politico_il but it isn’t what anyone was asking for. In fact that would be enough to get every school in ALL OF ILLINOIS to the recommended ratio.
The real number: 299394 / 250 = 1198
FY 20 budget 506 already so 692 needed. Or 69M over three years.
CPS has announced 665 (but won’t put in contract) putting the CTU ask at 533 more social workers than CPS wants. Or 53M over 3 years. That’s not 800m - that’s not even close.

We are talking about access to mental health services for kids dealing with intense trauma. We are seeing increases in suicidal attempts and cutting. You can’t be that wrong. You just can’t. Lives depend on this negotiation. At least report it correctly. #Twill
