All of this betrayal, rampant corruption, unabashed cruelty and authoritarianism has roots in unchecked greed and loveless ambition. If we’re going to survive it, if we’re going to make it better, we have to work toward a fairer and more humane world.
You do not get Trump, you do not get this duty-less Republican Party, you don’t get Russia bleeding into other country’s elections and perverting institutions without a system of greed and profit that overrides all empathy and honor. It simply doesn’t happen.
Even if we miraculously get through this crisis without further damage, Trump isn’t the end of this. There are more crises to come and more subversion along with them. The disease has to be addressed before its fatal.
