For those with children of a certain generation, or were of that generation themselves, childhood favourite Bosco, sometimes voiced by Eugene Lambert's daughter Paula Lambert, was all-important. Bosco was a small red-haired puppet, supposedly a five-year-old child with bright red
cheeks and a real squeaky voice.
So popular was Bosco that on 4 October 1982 a new manufacturing base to make the puppets opened in Strokestown Roscommon.
The Lambert Puppet Theatre, which also produced Wanderly Wagon, closed in 2018. Wanderly Wagon was the programme of choice
for an earlier generation, running on RTE television for 15 years from 1967. Even the mention of Wanderly Wagon starts the theme tune rolling in my head and I can hear Sssssssssneeeeaky Snake's hiss!
