RETWEET THIS THREAD TO HELP VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN YOUR COMMUNITY - @LincsFireRescue has launched our latest Community Fire Safety campaign which highlights characteristics of people in our communities who are most at risk. #SHERMAN ⬇️⬇️🚒🚒
Did you know @LincsFireRescue offer Safe & Well visits to vulnerable people in the community? Either the local crew or an advocate can visit and offer fire safety advice, fit equipment and also give advice on general wellbeing and signpost to our partner agencies ✅
SMOKING - smoking causes roughly 10% of fires in the home. We look out for things such as: smoking in bed, smokers with poor mobility and smoking while drinking alcohol. 🚬#SHERMAN
HOARDING - fires spread much quicker in hoarded properties and escape routes may be blocked. Hoarded properties are also a danger for our crews which is why it is important to support these people. #SHERMAN
ELDERLY OR LIVES ALONE - Lincolnshire has an ageing population with many suffering with loneliness and social isolation. We are a friendly uniformed service, trained on frailty assessments, have knowledge on local groups and can signpost to partner agencies. 🙂 #SHERMAN
MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES - Of the fire fatalities since 2012, six had mental health issues. All crews and advocates are #DementiaFriends and work with people to keep them safe and well in their home 👍 #SHERMAN
ALCOHOL MISUSE, DRUG OR MEDICATION DEPENDENCE - 13 people who died in fire related incidents 2012 had an alcohol or substance issue. We consider would they react to a smoke detector? Are there further issues with cooking and smoking? #SHERMAN
NEEDS CARE OR SUPPORT - Everyone needs a little help sometimes. Together we can ensure that those in need of additional care have access to the best support network for them. 👫👬👭 #SHERMAN
ANYONE (professional or member of the public) can refer someone for a Safe & Well visit, however consent is essential ✅
We would love to visit everyone! But we must prioritise the most vulnerable in our communities. If someone does not meet the criteria for a visit, we will send a DIY booklet so that everyone can make their home safe from fire. 🔥

Ooops! Looks like I've missed the R. #SHERMANnotSHEMAN
REDUCED MOBILITY, HEARING OR VISUAL IMPAIRMENT - Some people would be unable to self evacuate so a visit from us means we know in advance, should a 999 call be made! We can also supply special alarms for people with hearing impairments, with flashing lights and a vibrating pad!
