Don’t overlook the real story here. Judge Marrero ruled that New York can give Trump’s tax returns to the grand jury that’s targeting Trump for indictment on state charges. He’ll be arrested the minute he’s no longer president. When I say Trump’s going to prison, I’m not kidding.
Even if Trump somehow manages to get the tax return thing reversed on appeal, or the grand jury can’t find anything indictable in his returns, they’re still going to indict him the hush money thing, the mortgage and insurance fraud, etc.
Trump’s criminal indictment on state charges is a given. And neither he nor any future president can pardon state charges. The real story when it comes to Trump is that he can’t just walk away from the presidency – he has to try to cut a resignation plea deal for reduced charges.
The essential question is whether Trump is doing all this deranged stuff on his way out the door simply because he resents that it’s over for him, or because he’s strategically trying to scare us into giving him a more favorable plea deal to get rid of him sooner. Take your pick.
Oh, and if Trump refuses to leave office when he’s done, hallelujah. We’ll get to watch federal law enforcement drag him out of the White House by his heels - and then he’ll never get a lenient plea deal 😁
