@CASottile spoke to the manager of a mobile home community in Sonoma this afternoon that will, alongside nearly a million Californians, have their power shut off by @PGE4Me at midnight.
The typical resident there is elderly, and he estimated half of them need refrigerated medications like insulin or powered devices like oxygen regulators to stay alive.
This afternoon someone from the utility cane and announced for the first time that all 290 homes would lose power.
Tonight the manager plans to stay up all night to ensure that his residents don’t doze off with candles lit, or fall in the dark.
This same community had to abandon their homes when PG&E accidentally started wildfires in the region. That happened exactly two years ago TODAY.
Tonight’s darkness and danger for this community is not because a storm surge is approaching or an earthquake has struck. It’s because the public utility in the world capitol of technology evidently hasn’t upgraded enough to avoid setting fire to the state all over again.
Embarrassing to ask for an unroll myself, @threadreaderapp, but I need to pitch this to my bosses. Thank you.
