All that tail wagging got me thinking about an old story I heard years ago about the satanic cult known as the Process Church of Final Judgement. In the 60s, two would be "auditors" broke from Scientology to form their own religion... (2)

The crazy thing is what happened after the Church "ended". Founding member, Mary Ann MacLean, allegedly went Christian in 1979-80 and re-branded the cult as the Foundation Church of the Millennium. Doesn't sound particularly Christian to me... (4)
In 1984 the Church relocated to Utah and became the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Pretty radical 180, right? Satan to saving pups? In 2003 they swapped Sanctuary for Society but nothing else really changed. Some process members still sit on the board. bestfriends.org/about/leadersh… (5)

While these are still loose threads in my mind, I can't help wondering why a bunch of ex-satanists are running a massive tax exempt animal shelter on a massive estate in Utah? How many politicians adopted their dogs there? I'll try to find out, but any help is welcome. (end)
