1. “Voters don’t want another referendum.” - WRONG. They want one by a crushin two-to-one margin. Cont’d

2. “If people vote the same way as last time, Leave would win again.”(The “tell them again” fallacy) - WRONG. Demographic churn alone means it is a meaningfully different electorate, with a significantly more anti-Brexit profile. Cont’d
3. “Voters just want Brexit done.” - WRONG. The vast majority care more about achieving their preferred outcome than timing. Ironically, this is even more pronounced among Brexiters - only one-in-three prioritise speed at any cost. Cont’d
4. “Voters haven’t changed their minds about Brexit.” - WRONG. About one-in-five *have* changed their mind about it, with the change overwhelmingly in Remain’s favour producing a 5% swing against leaving, across all polls this year. Cont’d
5. So, might media stop, for one moment, looking for inane, self-selecting voxpops to support each of those tropes? Might No.10 shut up telling us “what people want”, long enough to actually LISTEN to what people want? ~AA

Now two sides have gone into ‘negotiating tunnel’, it’s vital that we begin looking at the whole scope of Johnson’s proposals. For the first time business is not protesting about no-deal. It’s protesting about the deal. The importance of this moment cannot be underestimated. ~JL
For around two years now the government has successfully shifted Brexit’s Overton window. Because no-deal is such a calamity, a deal - any deal - has seemed moderate and desirable in comparison. Industry wept with relief over May’s deal even though it was an economic disaster ~JL
That has now changed. Industry has wised up to the Overton window and realised it needs to challenge it. May’s deal took us out of the single market but at least offered a ‘level playing field’ on many regulations. Johnson, in contrast, wants a hard-right race to the bottom. ~JL

Before I sign off for the evening, I wanted to give you my reading of today’s events. I have kept purposefully detached, because the greatest danger for Remainers is to become wrapped up in the will-they-or-won’t-they-find-a-deal soap opera and miss the substance. 1/
The fundamentals are the same as ever. The sort of Brexit the UK is looking for, is essentially incompatible with its responsibilities under the Belfast Agreement. Because that peace treaty is not about the practicalities of where checks take place and where cameras go up. /2
That treaty is about reconciling a population, who see their national identifies as conflicting, by offering “European” as a bridging, unifying identity. Brexit trashes that miraculous fudge. The last three years have been about damage limitation. Nothing more or less. /3

Johnson’s speech begins with an extraordinarily lacklustre namecheck of Theresa May, followed by the most muted applause imaginable. Brutal. ~JL
Johnson, for some reason famed for his oratory, is racing through this. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a political speech rattled off at such speed. Anyone would think he was embarrassed by this garbage. ~JL

Opinium Poll: Just 1 in 3 said they wanted to “get Brexit done” regardless of the terms.
3/. Myth two: “Voters haven’t changed their minds about Brexit since the 2016 referendum.”

In fact 2 in 10 have and 1 in 4 Labour Leave voters would now vote Remain or do not know how they would vote.

The problem with the SNP is that they want to be liked too much. Whenever the opposition criticise something said, the party immediately condemns it. But they fail to realise that the complaint with regards to what was said, was not actually about what was said.
The complaint was made because the person was actually speaking the truth about the political opposition in a blunt way that they didn't like because it prevented them from putting forward their twister narrative in the way they wanted.
Point and case is the Tory politicians who block those who respond to repeat lies with empirical data like Murdo Fraser. IT IS NOT WRONG TO BE ANGRY ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE WRONG! IT IS NOT WRONG TO EXPRESS ANGER AT SOMETHING WHEN IT IS 100% WARRANTED!
