So I had my first #Police vs #Dev Encounter today.

Stepped out of School to run an errand and on my way back I was stopped.

We had the regular back and forth on whether I was doing "work" as they called it.

Questioned me about my phones and laptop also

1/11
Showed them my school ID which had Computer Sciences boldly written on it and I told them I needed a laptop for my school activities.

They searched me, searched inside my trousers, hoodie, shirt and bag.

They then began questioning me about homosexuality and cultism 😭😂

Next thing, they wanted to search my phones and PC. I opened them all for them to search.

Well I use Linux so they couldn't operate my PC, they also couldn't operate my Pixel because the pixel doesn't have the regular back and minimize buttons like the regular Android.

He wasn't really interested in my Tecno maybe because the screen is bad.

Next thing was, Enter vehicle let's go and meet expert to check your devices very well. I told him I wasn't going to enter any vehicle but I agreed to go and meet the so-called expert.

Well the so called expert also couldn't operate the Pixel 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Then he began to check my WhatsApp messages. While he was doing this, his colleagues were busy advising me to settle them.

Me: Settle what? Keep searching for what is not there. We die here today

5/11
Well after searching for what isn't there for a while, I got new messages from a @SAFUnilag group chat I belong to.

Then they began to joke amongst them that 'this one na pastor oo'.

Well they searched for a while and then finally they let me go.

6/11
The entire thing was annoying to me because they kept on insisting that I should just settle them and go.

And luckily for me I had closed all open terminals and code editors this morning which is quite unlike me.

Imagine trying to explain what a DO droplet means/does

7/11
They sha let me go but what is paining me is my @Boltapp_ng ride that was still on.

This police stuff is real, a lot of my tech brothers have experienced it and today it was my turn.

Some of us actually work hard to make a living legitimately in this nation

The fact that I use a high grade Android phone, I own a PC or wear a hoodie doesn't mean I am a criminal.

After all, you don't stop claim a doctor is a quack doctor because you see him with a stethoscope. It's the tool of his trade and guess what MY LAPTOP IS MY TOOL

9/11
So when you see people talk about #PoliceBrutality and #PoliceReform. It's not because we like to talk, or because we are jobless it's because we have experienced it first hand.

We live
We move

Thankfully, I am well and fine. I am back to doing the things I love to do.

Tommorow is another day.
