I prefer Warren over a lot of the other candidates, but let’s not pretend she has a monopoly on big structural change.
Electing a woman President is big structural change.

Electing an LGBT President is big structural change.

Electing a Hispanic, Black or Asian President is big structural change.

If you can’t see this, you understand America less than Trump voters do.
Not that other candidates don’t also have big structural *policy* changes in their platforms too! I just see a lot of my fellow straight white progressives/liberals falling into the same old trap of focusing on a certain set of issues in a certain sort of way. It’s not right.

Trump is an autocratic, kleptocratic, white supremacist, serial sexual predator with a personality disorder. He makes it all so damn obvious. But he gets away with it anyway, because this is a white supremacist, patriarchal psuedo-democracy with a culture of denial.
Trump isn’t just a symptom of what wrong with the GOP, or with the press. He’s a symptom of what’s wrong with whiteness and patriarchy. He’s a symptom of everything broken and neglected in our electoral and legal systems.
Trump is a symptom of the fact this country was created as a minority rule system and remains one. You don’t get Trump in a country that wasn’t already steeped in white male supremacist propaganda, lawlessness and denialism.

The thing is, Barr’s been saying this stuff for decades, and worse. But it got zero press during his confirmation. Christian extremism gets to fly under the radar in America. An anti-democratic movement hiding in plain sight.
How many of you heard about this before his confirmation? And how many of you were told he was a respectable DC establishment figure?

Over the last 2 years a rash of crowdfunders have suddenly popped up from a handful of anti-trans “gender critical” individuals.

Some have had single donations over £12k from anonymous sources!

I’ve investigated and can reveal they’ve raised over £280k!!! 😳

Important thread/
The “Gender Critical” crowdfunder phenomenon started with Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull aka “Posie Parker”, for a ‘legal fund’ after she was questioned by police for harassment and transphobic hate speech.

£12,274 was raised

The case never went to trial.
While Posie used some of the £12k to pay off her very expensive lawyer, the remainder has been used to kickstart her anti-trans t-shirt/ poster “business” - making more money to campaign against trans people/ take trips to America/ London with her anti-trans campaigning buddies!

THREAD: Had a truly depressing conversation about 2020 with my 12 yr old daughter. We were talking about Elizabeth Warren v. Kamala Harris (both of whom we like) and my daughter said "It doesn't matter though, we'll never have a woman president."
I told her that I understood her feeling but that we should remember that HRC won the popular vote and that more women and POC won in 2018 than ever before. I told her trump is historically unpopular.
But she was unconvinced.
She said trump is running and he will cheat.
I replied that I had my fears as well, but that we need to prepare on 2 tracks- One in which we work like hell to elect a democrat (preferably a woman) and the other in which we prepare to help others if trump stays in office (by cheating, winning, or a refusing to leave) .

I will stand with black women till my last breath.
If you do NOT stand with black women, ask yourself why.
As a #lesbian, I hope people will stand with/for me.
They don't always, because being an ally takes work.
But I welcome allies, no matter how long it takes folks to get there.
We must believe in people being able to #change.
None of us has perfect politics nor personal lives.
Every day people change.
People who were racists realize they were wrong.
Men who were misogynists realize women are people.
Homophobes realize they were wrong.

We all have the power to realize we have been wrong and to change.
Embrace change.
It's how we heal the world.
