It is vital to the self-styled left to deny their racism and sexism by admiring women and people of color who are not running against white candidates they support. They adore Abrams and think Gillum is great, but only because they are not running for president.
They might adore Avel here in Oregon, but if she challenged Wyden, they would toss on her like she was rancid beef. They like women and POC who know that the top job is for white men...and maybe, this time, as a token, a white woman.
As for Black people, look at their erasure of Cory Booker and Kamala Harris compared to their fawning for Beto and Buttigieg. It's as though Obama punched the Black ticket and there won't be another opening for another century.
