Yet ANOTHER Title VI complaint has been lodged by a Jewish student alleging anti-Semitism due to anti-Israel/anti-Zionist speech. One more example of why adopting the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism is a problem for free speech on campus.

You can read the complaint here. A UCLA student says that she was verbally attacked in class by a guest lecturer for her Zionism, which she insists is a core component of her Jewish identity. To attack Zionism, she argues, is inherently anti-Semitic.

This is the flip side of what Batya Ungar-Sargon says she experienced at Bard last week. As much as Ungar-Sargon insists (correctly) that being Jewish does not necessitate being a Zionist, many supporters of Israel insist otherwise. And it's infuriating.
Worse still is when educational institutions and governments start defining Judaism in this fashion. That's why the recent move by Canada to adopt the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism is so concerning.

Btw we now have another, very different take on what happened at Bard College. Kenneth Stern was there and says that Ungar-Sargon is wrong to allege anti-Semitism.

And you should take Stern seriously. You see, he was the author of the IHRA definition.
