Buhari this... Buhari that.
Economic Commission for Africa way back in (1985) described Africa's economic situation in 1984 as the worst since the GREAT DEPRESSION and Africa as the sick child of international economy.

A thread:
ECA's 1983 25th anniversary projection of previous trends to 2008 envisioned the following nightmare of ;
EXPLOSIVE POPULATION GROWTH PRESSING ON PHYSICAL RESOURCES AND SOCIAL SERVICES: The social economic conditions would be characterized by degradation of the very essence
of human dignity.
THE RURAL POPULATION, WHICH WOULD HAVE TO SURVIVE ON INTOLERABLE TOIL, WILL FACE AN ALMOST DISASTROUS SITUATION OF LAND SCARCITY WHEREBY WHOLE FAMILY WOULD HAVE TO SUBSIST ON A MERE HECTARES OF LAND.
POVERTY WILL REACH AN UNIMAGINABLE DIMENSIONS, SINCE RURAL INCOME WOULD BECOME ALMOST NEGLIGIBLE RELATIVE TO PHYSICAL GOODS AND SERVICES. THE CONDITIONS IN THE URBAN CENTERS WOULD ALSO WORSEN WITH MORE SHANTY TOWNS, MORE CONGESTED ROADS, MORE BEGGARS AND MORE DELINQUENTS.
THE LEVEL OF UNEMPLOYED SEARCHING DESPERATELY FOR THE MEANS TO SURVIVE WOULD IMPLY INCREASED CRIME RATES AND MISERY.
ALONGSIDE THE MISERY, THERE WOULD CONTINUE TO BE THOSE VERY FEW WHO, UNASHAMEDLY, WOULD DEMONSTRATE AN EVEN HIGHER DEGREE OF CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION. THESE VERY FEW WOULD CONTINUE TO DEMAND THAT THE NATIONAL DEPARTMENT STORES BE FILLED WITH IMPORTS OF LUXURY GOODS EVEN IF
SPARE PARTS FOR ESSENTIAL PRODUCTION UNITS CANNOT BE PROCURED FOR LACK OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE. (ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR AFRICA (ECA) 1983 25TH PROJECTION OF PREVIOUS TRENDS TO 2008).
This is 2019 Nigeria, please tell us which of these projections is proving to be incorrect?
Claude Ake (1996) writes and I quote " With independence, African Leaders were in no position to pursue development; they were too engrossed in the struggle for survival... Instead of being a PUBLIC FORCE, the state in Africa tends to be privatized, that is, appropriated to the
Service of private interests by the dominant faction of the elite." Another true depiction. Here's a President damning the consequences that could potential arise from breaking the chains that kept Nigeria dependent on imports by these few unashamed elite Nigerians who are
into these imports of foreign goods themselves at the detriment of larger population of Nigerians. Before the border closure, foreign rice for example was sold for an average of N17,000. Now our local rice is sold for an average of N16,500 while foreign rice is sold for N23,000
Is it by force to buy and eat foreign rice?
Do you even care that aside the positive economic implications of Nigeria land border closure, there has been an attendant favourable security implications. There's relative peace in the land.
Now to your "35 years connotation in your tweet ~ Like the 2015 recession period, 1984/85 also witnessed a sharp drop in commodity prices, high inflation, rising unemployment, and unprecedented high taste for foreign/imported goods to the detriment of locally produced goods which
inadvertently led to many factories closing shop, While these moribund factories began to be used as warehouses for imported goods and conversion to churches. Now #41 items forex restrictions by @cenbank and various other ban by @NigeriaGov accompanied by Central banks's
directive to commercial banks to lend certain percentage of available credit to businesses is forcing many hitherto importer to begin the profitable journey to industrialization and self- sufficiency. I know for a fact that the Nigeria Manufacturing Association are on the same
Page with the Federal Government on this Land border closure especially as it relates to their locally manufactured goods which used to be smuggled through the land borders. Unlike in the past, this @NGRPresident @MBuhari is trying tremendously hard to turn the fortunes of this
Great country around but many of you aren't impressed because he's not technologically savy enough for you. He's not young enough, not eloquent enough even though he's doing d job 10x better than his predecessors.
BTW, You couldn't even tell your followers that only Land border
Are closed. The air & sea borders remain open for legitimate business/importers/exporters. And I see you were clever with " whatever it is that's the question" to deflect people from asking "direct question" on your unambiguous view of the the border closure by BUHARI Government.
