So much of the pathology of how liberals respond to progressives makes sense when you realize they've just been spoiled on decades of roasting uneducated, bigoted Republicans by going "look at this racist doofus. I'm the smart woke person in the room."
Because liberals have internalized their sense of self as the True Defenders of the Oppressed, when they are flanked to the left, they try to use the exact same tactics that they used on the Republicans, without realizing they are the new bigoted punching bags.
The "bernie bro" narrative, for example, which portrays liberals as these tragic victims of horrible harassment campaigns, is really just them grasping at straws on how to respond to a movement which has utterly outflanked them on all ethical and intellectual issues.
