Ghana is currently one of the most popular destinations.
Ghana announced 2019 as the year of return for African diaspora which marks 400 years since the first slaves arrived in Virginia.

If you are planning a  visit to Ghana , here's how to have an epic time.

(Thread)
First things first..I didn't  need to worry about a visa since it's visa free to visit Ghana for Kenyan passport holders for a period of 30 days.  All citizens of the African union (except Morocco) that are not visa exempt  can get visa on arrival in Ghana at 150 USD.
I used skyscanner app and Google flights to compare flights prices about 3 months in before the actual date of my trip. The cheapest flight had a two 2 hour layover in Kigali. However there are direct flights from Nairobi to Accra.
You'll land in Accra . spending a day or two exploring the capital. The African prints will catch your eye. Esp the Kente.  Use public transport (trotro) as opposed to taxis or you can use taxi apps which are much affordable. I particularly loved this taxi app called Yango.
Accommodation is quite expensive in Ghana so you can either go with airbnb or try couch surfing. Be very keen when choosing. Read reviews on the app you use and then go ahead check further reviews on trip advisor. It's good to know what people are saying about a place.
Things To do in Accra

Political history lovers should visit places like Kwame Nkrumah museum, the independent square, and Asomdwe park which are rich in history and highlight the role of some political leaders in decolonization of the African continent
If you visit Accra in late Aug, youll be just in time to attend the Chale wote fest which is a free street art fest that takes place at the historic Jamestown. 100s of artists from attend this festival. It's it as one of the coolest experiences you can have.
Another fun place to check out is East Legon Botanical garden for the high rope challenge. Highly recommend for the adrenaline rush.

If this is not your thing then they have a canopy walk and a short boat ride. It's a stunning place
The night life in Accra  is alive and the place to check out is OSU. Osu  is a road full of clubs so this is where people party. Ghanaians do know how to rock a partyy
After you're done with the Accra, do a day tour to the Eastern region. There's public transport which is cheaper than using taxi apps. However if you're in a group. Taxi is more convenient.  Visit Boti Falls then the Aburi botanical gardens Love hiking? Hike up the Umbrella rock
Another must visit place is the central region. you'll find  cape coast and elmina castles where black slaves were forcefully held in disgusting conditions before being shipped  to the rest of the world about 400 years ago through the point of no return. It's an emotional tour.
Food is delicious and full of pepper...first of all if a Ghanaian says food is not chilly . They are lying.  🤣🤣 and if they ask you which jollof is better between the Naija one and the Ghana one please don't respond. It's a trap.
But the food variety is insane.  I had banku, waakye, kenkey ,jollof, fried rice, fried yam, alloco, fufu, plantain, ground nut soup  and so much more.
Other places to check out

The volta region - . the area itself is green and perfect for hiking with stunning waterfalls

Takoradi for  the stunning beaches in Busua.

Kumasi-  for the history and highlights of the Ashanti empire (the end)
