Can someone do a text comparison on 1 and 2?
The folks who are blocking me for *checks notes* making legal comments on the withdrawal agreement and related process will sure be disappointed when they find out that blocking me doesn't stop Brexit.

The non-binding political declaration on the future relationship always had reference to negotiation of employment, environmental, tax standards etc. Para 79 of the previous version has been revised to reflect the issues removed from the binding backstop -

1/ Lots of comments on this planned immigration bill. Some comments.

First of all, this isn't new. An immigration bill which would have ended free movement of EU citizens to the UK was proposed in the previous session: services.parliament.uk/Bills/2017-19/…
2/ The main intention, according to the explanatory notes, is to end free movement of EU27 citizens to the UK, while retaining special rules for Irish citizens. The assumption is that this takes place after Brexit day.
3/ The reason for doing this via a Bill is that some free movement rights appear in Acts of parliament, so another Act is needed to repeal them.

You might remember the Home Secretary planning to do this via secondary legislation in August. The lawyers talked her out of it.

1/ The CJEU has scheduled a hearing *after* October 31st in a case referred from a court in the UK.

As it happens, the case is about data protection law and involves the publisher of the Daily Mail.
2/ Here's the Court of appeal judgment in this case: bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/…

It concerns a celeb angry with the Mail newspapers.
3/ I don't think the CJEU is necessarily assuming that an extension of the UK's EU membership will be granted on Oct 31st - or that the withdrawal agreement, which maintains the Court's jurisdiction during the transition period, will be in force.

In my day job I'm negotiating an agreement between the EU and another country. With my Brexit Twitter hat on, let me share some details on the steps involved in getting to that agreement, and why it's unwise (read mad) to expect it to be done quickly: 1/
First, before you even start negotiating, you need a mandate. That means preparing legislation to be adopted by the EU Council outlining the acceptable parameters of an agreement ('negotiating directives'). In my case, that took 6 months. 2/
Then you can start to negotiate. The fastest negotiation I've seen took just under a year from first round to initialling (i.e. negotiators put their initials to an agreed text). With Canada it took about 13 years. Mine will probably take about 2 years. 3/

A closer look. The CH-UK trade deal counts as 1 EU trade relationship “rolled over” to the UK.

But it’s an incomplete “roll over”. Full continuity during transition in the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement, but less with “no deal” or after the transition.

It seems the trade agreement applies if there is no UK-EU deal. If there is one, ie, the Withdrawal Agreement, then that’s the instrument giving continuity.

Specifically, the UK-CH deal applies once the CH-EU agreements “cease to apply”

Truth:UK owes money for commitments legally entered into while a member. If we walk away, it undermines our reputation as a country which keeps its legal obligations, we won’t get a decent trade deal & they will insist we settle our debts.
2: It avoids the uncertainty which the transition period would bring
Not true. Business leaders are clear that a no-deal Brexit brings uncertainty. The two-year transition period (only available via the Withdrawal Agreement) has been one of the top asks from business..
