1. Yesterday @Kum_Sambhav tweet-threaded an important story on Justice Arun Mishra, Land Acquisition Law and the Reliance Group's interests ().
2. It came out of a brilliant deep-dive series on the fate of the Land Acquisition law, 2013 (LARR), which he lead. Remember, PM Modi once tried to dilute the law and we thought he failed. As we found out, he hadn't really. As journalists, we had taken the eye off the ball.
3. First we found out how many states, had flouted the law, with the help of the Centre, to not give adequate compensation under LARR

Le 3 août 1981 à 7h du matin, suite au blocage des négociations, la PATCO (Organisation professionnelle des contrôleurs aériens aux Etats-Unis), initie une grève illimitée. Les revendications des grévistes sont très élevées, car ils disposent d'un monopole absolu.
Les contrôleurs aériens comptent bien profiter de leur position pour forcer l'administration fédérale à se plier à leurs exigences :
Augmentation de 10000$ par an (26700$ de 2019!)
Semaine de 32h
Augmentation significative des retraites et assouplissement des conditions de départ
Ces revendications, totalement hors normes comparativement aux autres catégories de fonctionnaires américains, ne peuvent raisonnablement pas être satisfaites. La grève surprise provoque immédiatement une pagaille impressionnante dans l'ensemble des Etats américains.

#Thread: Thousands of families in MP fear submergence of their homes after the Centre has forced the filling up of the Sardar Sarovar Dam to its full capacity. The Centre was aware of families living in the submergence area. Some pictures to show the ground reality. 1/9
Since 2014, the Centre has claimed that all families in the submergence zone have been rehabilitated. However, a letter from the chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh to the Narmada Control Authority in May 2019 said that at least 6k families still live in the submergence area. 2/9
The Centre ignored this & approved the Gujarat govt’s request to fill the dam to test its capacity. As the dam started to fill up and flood villages, the MP govt set up camps to assess the no. of people awaiting rehabilitation while the local authorities evacuated the people. 3/9

As the work on building Amravati, the new capital city AP, comes to a grinding halt, concerns emerge about Amravati (APCRDA) bonds held by Franklin MF (~Rs. 1000 Cr) and Birla MF (Rs. ~300 Cr). Thread 1/11
During the Chandrababu Govt, Amravati received political as well as financial patronage. Now, with Jagan Reddy being incharge of the state, the project is in shambles. World Bank & ADB pulled out of the project and the Government is looking for reasons to scrap it. 2/n
The bonds issued to support the financing needs of the project were subscribed by Franklin MF and Birla MF. The bonds are guaranteed by the AP Govt but it's not sure if the Govt would keep servicing the bonds. The risk of lending to a state govt has again come to the fore. 3/11

Hier soir j’étais avec des amis, tout se passait bien, lorsqu’une des personnes a souhaité me partager son avis sur la scolarisation des enfants des « gens du voyage » en proposant une « sédentarisation forcée des familles » durant la période des 3 à 16 ans de l’enfant
Face à cette proposition, qui m’a quelque peu ému, j’ai eu la surprise de voir les autres personnes présentes acquiescer et je me suis dit que peut-être ces analyses simplistes étaient partagées par le plus grand nombre.
Pour commencer, il n’y a pas une réalité mais des réalités, aussi diverses que variées, puisque la catégorie administrative « gens du voyage » englobe des dizaines de communautés très différentes les unes des autres, parfois même sans aucun lien ethnique, culturel ou religieux.
