#AmbaBoys:The Poisoned Chalice of #SouthernCameroons.These Boys had no jobs.Some idling around. Barely surviving. Had little or no economic/social pwr. Had certificates & no jobs. Rode Okada, taxi or did odd jobs to make ends meet. Some were farmers.Others hd petty business.Etc
Today, bcos of govt's brutal repression of legit peaceful protests in 2016/2017, the indiscriminate killing
&abduction of young men by #Cameroon soldiers, loss of their main sources of income, they hv all but a few become members of armed militia. Sponsored mainly by diaspora
Today the populations hail them. The diaspora arms them. Activists report their gains,losses& deaths(sacrifice as its called) The govt potrays some as heros for laying down arms and choosing peace. #Cameroon govt has even formed &armed its own #AmbaBoys. What abt the longterm?
Today these hopeless, powerless, poor and economically disenfranchised young men who barely had sth to look fdw to now hv a daily motivation. Go out there& harvest. And depending on the group their harvest cud be a Soldier, a soldier's head, a kidnap victim, a gun, donation etc
It cud even be simple praise from the various praise groups. Narcissists amongst the Amba boys like Field marshall hv even enthroned themselves as Village royalty. And the pple are in submission ( some bcos of the barrel of the gun).
But all isnt poisonned when it comes to AmbaBoys. We cannot deny that these #AmbaBoys were borm out of a need to "Defend" themselves and the populations the #Cameroon govt was supposed to protect but instead shot at, raped, abducted,jailed and/or summarily executed
Some pple swear that they are alive today bcos AmbaBoys saved them from Military raids. Some were given food, protection and shelter by these "boys". Others swear without the Amba Boys and their courage, #Cameroon govt wud hv crushed #Anglophones into silence
Others claim they are just a nuissance &must be eliminated. However u perceive them,we all agree on 1 thng. AmbaBoys are Armed&Dangerous.They have Power,Money,Control &A Mission (and dare i say support for their mission from places far beyond the boundaries of Africa.)
The AmbaBoys are praised today but who will control them tomorrow? How shall we take back that pwr?How shall we re-instate trust when any ideology slightly in contrast to theirs is met with fire and certain death(or calls for it)?
Today the #AmbaBoys may be the heros of #Ambazonia but tomorrow migjt be Ambazonia's biggest nightmare. The poisonned Chalice Many are drinking from.in their quest for Justice for #SouthernCameroons. God help Us all!!

When you have first-person narratives from suicidal 17-year-old servants floating around, it gets harder to pretend that the social order is noble & good.

It argues only regulating inflation & unemployment matters, not
deficits.

I'll let @paulkrugman handle MMT's explicit problems. Mine are with its implicit presumptions:
1—We know how to manage long term vs short term
2—Global interdependencies don't matter
3—permission for uncapped spending
4—ignoring effect of aging
5—We can control inflation post-MMT
1) LT vs ST
Even w/traditional keynesianism, we are terrible at ½ the theory. SAVE during booms, spend during downturns. We've got the 2nd half down. Not the first one. Is there anything in our history that might suggest we are capable or willing to make good LT rate decisions?
