Nasrallah: The government's reform package was a great result achieved by the demonstrations. You should be proud of it, rather than ridiculing it.
Nasrallah: Hizbullah will *guarantee* that the government's reform promises are carried out.
Nasrallah is doing his best to credit the uprising and to recognize its worth. But one suspects that there's a big "however..." coming.
Nasrallah: The government's reform proposal is only a first step. We want to build on it by passing a law that lifts banking secrecy, lifts legal immunity for lawmakers, and creates full transparency.
Nasrallah: Any solution proposed has to avoid a vacuum. A vacuum will lead to more poverty and hunger. Vacuum will lead to chaos.
Nasrallah: Vacuum carries with it the risk of economic disaster, and perhaps even civil war. We are open to all dialogue, but vacuum is not an option.
Nasrallah: When we said that we were against early parliamentary elections, it was because this is a *complicated* issue, people. Some people want proportional rep, some want majoritarian, some want 1 district, some want the Orthodox law... etc.
Nasrallah: Let's get real. You can't just call for parliamentary elections in Lebanon and think it's going to be straightforward. Stop pretending that it could be.
Nasrallah: When Hizbullah held its anti-govt protests in the past, we didn't shut down the whole country. We didn't create a vacuum in the country. Yes, we held things up for 2.5 years. But we didn't create vacuum.
Nasrallah: To the protesters: choose a leadership. Decide on who will represent you, and agree on what your demands are. Then go see the President and negotiate. Don't stop protesting if you don't want to. Keep it up. But don't reject the offer of dialogue.
Nasrallah: I'm not against blocking roads, as a principle. I'm against the timing of this practice. It's been 9 days. There are people who can't afford to be stuck at home, not working. They can't feed their children.
Nasrallah: People want the roads to open again. You can protest in the squares. But don't block the roads. The economic situation can't sustain the blockages.
Nasrallah: I *hope* that this isn't a conspiracy to create a so-called Arab Spring in Lebanon, which has only led to civil war around the region.
