A few months ago, we had the crazy idea to ask our lead volunteers to organize community forums. They decide the topic, date, location, and panelists.

We did this bc we believe that campaigns often ask too little of volunteers who are, in our view, true community organizers 1/4
We also believe that when people in rural areas have a choice on issues, they vote for change. We saw this w/ raising the wage, campaign finance reform, and medical marijuana - all which passed in the 8th.

It was time to bring the convos to the people. 2/4
Here’s where we are:

✅ 10 forums scheduled for the next two months
✅ 5 more in the works for after the 1st of year
✅ Standing room only and mostly new faces at each forum so far
✅ Community leaders in each county of the District, ready to go 3/4
So, all this to say: Organize must begin with the people who live in the communities you’re organizing. Full stop.

AND

Rural Missouri is ready for change, and is ready to do the work to make it happen.
