Which 2020 Democratic candidates made the most headlines recently, and how much does it vary depending on where one gets one’s news? To analyze this, we downloaded tweets from the last 10 days linking a sample of 38 media sites and extracted the headlines.

@ZellaQuixote After doing some cleanup of the resulting data (such as removing duplicate headlines that were flagged as distinct due to slight differences in formatting), we counted the number of unique headlines mentioning 2020 Democratic candidates on each site.
@ZellaQuixote The results: first, the coverage is not evenly distributed. Four candidates (Warren, Sanders Biden, and Gabbard) have received the majority of recent coverage and are the only candidates to be the most frequently featured in headlines by at least one media site.
@ZellaQuixote Same data, but shown as percentages of each news site’s headlines mentioning each candidate. High percentages - particularly for Gabbard and to a lesser extent for Biden- correlate strongly with state-sponsored (RT, Sputnik) or extremist/fringe (Daily Stormer, ZeroHedge) sources.
@ZellaQuixote Same analysis, but with the GOP candidates added. Trump becomes the most-frequently mentioned for almost all sites, with the exception of RT (Tulsi Gabbard), GatewayPundit (Joe Biden), and Judicial Watch (also Biden.)
