1/ Many big problems potentially have government-led solutions, entrepreneur created and led solutions, and solutions initiated at the personal level. But if government, a regulated industry, and political factions created the problem then personal solutions are required.
2/ The California electric power reliability crisis is notable for the lack of a serious proposal for a large scale institutional response to rapidly solve the problem of millions of people people losing power multiple times per year. Will it take literally 10 years to solve?
3/ I find PG&E's proposed 10 year time line to end outages amazing, excepting for the fact that USA has generally slowed down in problem solving and in large project development. You want speed and fast development? Look to China. America can't do it anymore. Democracy failure?
4/ Given the deteriorating performance of large institutions we need to treat more problems as only solvable on the personal level. That can mean moving, or a home garage built to keep out larcenous criminals, or tens of thousands of $ spent on reliable PV+batteries.
5/ So far I see no signs that the politically most dysfunctional parts of USA will improve. The Revolt Of The Public might better be labeled The Revolt Of The Ineffectual. Street protests around the globe are notable for how little they improve governance. smile.amazon.com/Revolt-Public-…
