Years ago, before the economy crashed I had a real actual job. We were bought by a gigantic company. I still have a pension plan with said company. Just got update: get $ in there in a lump sum (take the hit w/taxes) or wait for retirement. Retirement. HA. So I'm reading thru ...
and I come across an absolutely absurd sentence that stopped me in my tracks. They list pros and cons for each choice. Under lump sum choice, one of the cons:
"You risk outliving your lump sum."
I cannot stop thinking about that sentence. It reaches an existential Beckett-ian level. Now with everything else I have to worry about, I have to think about outliving my lump sum.
It would be terrible to leave this world too soon, but it would be even more terrible to outlive my lump sum.
I don't want to outlive my cat, my friends, my family, but I really don't want to outlive my lump sum.
I watch too much True Crime. Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have Tweeted this because some psycho is going to try to infiltrate my life with sweet-talk and try to get me to sign over my lump sum before ... you know - like that kid did in New Jersey.
