Republicans: "The electoral college is good because it prevents the majority exercising their will over others."

Also Republicans: "Trump was elected the president, therefore he is the people and he can do whatever he wants to anyone."
Both of these ideas are wrong. But there's something astonishing about the cognitive dissonance it takes to hold both of these ideas in your head at once.

Representative democracy is bad because it's fascism: Also, we are fascists and Trump can do whatever he wants.
This is why we need to teach civics in schools. Most people don't recognize fascism when it's in front of them.

The first tenet of fascism is: the state is the people, so limits on state power are illogical.

That's basically Trump's whole attitude toward government.
