While I'm at it, I should tout a just-published paper (Greenberg, 2019), which makes a significant leap forward on the key issue of what info & resources will be transmitted via weak vs. strong ties.

Shockingly, & despite Granovetter 73 being the most cited paper in the...
... social sciences, our theory has been impoverished by a failure to consider when contacts are more or less likely to share info & resources.

(Key exception is Smith 2005; see thread below & see follow-on work, esp by Marin 2012 & @minjaekim22 & Fernandez 2017)
Jason's progress comes from deep thinking about a diff context from labor markets-- i.e., nascent startups, which surfaces the key issue that info gets its value from the particular projects to which it might be used & that if it's used by someone else (who might be someone...
... whom you barely know & won't give u credit, etc) & can't be used by you or someone closer to you (bc it's finite & "rival"), u might not want to share it.

A very interesting implication is that "weak ties (are most likely to offer) skill-based human-capital."
Note: Jason is a former student & so perhaps I'm biased in appreciating this paper so much. So don't trust me-- read the paper for yourself!
