By the way, you see Tina’s yellow barrette? It’s not a yellow barrette. The kid looked in five stores and couldn’t find one. So minutes before we left I stretched a yellow balloon-animal balloon over one of her old brown barrettes, and MADE A YELLOW BARRETTE.
(This Halloween was heavier on buying perfect stuff and lighter on making perfect stuff than usual, so I was thrilled to be presented with the challenge.)

Lots of statewide elections today. Lots of statewide referenda in places that don't have statewide elections. Lots of local elections and referenda in places where there's nothing going on statewide. Get out and vote.

Counterpoint: Anyone who argues that the president is engaged in the unification of the American people is engaging in the glorification of the president.
The presidency is a political office, and politics is about building coalition, not consensus.
And yes, as some have responded, the president has ceremonial, head-of-state responsibilities as well. But that’s not the heart of the job. Politics and policy are the heart of the job.

(To be clear: this was a joke, grounded in the constitutional mandate that the president and vice president maintain residency in different states.)
(I assume the real reason is some combination of tax dodge, New Yorkers’ hatred of him, and wanting to monetize his post-presidential fame at Mar-a-Lago.)

I just about qualified as Widowed And Young when you died, being as I was 48 in February 2017. I've documented much of that journey before in my blog so I'm not going to rehash that.

In the intervening 2 and a half years I'd almost got to the point of acceptance. I've enjoyed life but no matter how good the night out, how much fun the race, it was still an empty bed I returned to. You persisted in being gone despite how much I told you I missed you.

I've kept things going and I still tidy up and arrange the cushions on the bed as I know you'd like that. I wasn't living though, your memory tied me to a past I could not return to. I done my best for the kids but I'm afraid the garden's a mess, I will sort it.

Keith waits behind his normal cluster of rocks for the human to come into the cove. He's not supposed to be this close to shore, much less at the surface, but the sky has always called to him.
The man who comes to swim in the sheltered cove every other day calls to him too.

Keith bites down on his bottom lip, sharp teeth digging in as he cranes his head, watching the shore path. There's a smaller group of rocks closer in that he could potentially hide behind.
Checking the path was still empty, he decides to risk it. His tail splashes softly as he takes off, black fin tips shimmer in the morning sun before disappearing back below the water.

chanyeol and his four-year-old daughter naeun have been celebrating the last two christmases with no one else but the two of them.

chanyeol is planning to celebrate this year's christmas with naeun's uncles (chanyeol's best friends) but naeun is planning something else.
"daddy~ our christmas break will be in a few days." naeun cheered from the passenger seat while chanyeol was putting on her seatbelt.

"really? that means daddy could finally take you to the arcade." chanyeol told her daughter with the same cheery tone.

"yes & we'll eat a lot!"
"we will." chanyeol promised. the car engine roared & the two were off to naeun's school.

naeun is in kindergarten & she goes to a school a bit far from their house but closer to chanyeol's workplace. as soon as she finishes school, chanyeol picks her up & brings her to his work
