According to Newton's laws, when objects rotate around a common centre, the ones furthest from the centre move more slowly than those near it. Otherwise, the furthest objects would fly off into space.

Rubin's observations of stars in galaxies didn't match this. Either there is mass that we can't see or gravity behaves differently than we presently know. #DarkMatter is now widely accepted in the scientific community thanks to the work of Vera Rubin.
