Some highlights from last night's trick or treating:

Our six foot Grim Reaper ran out of battery power about half an hour in and started just repeating the first word of his first phrase: "Don't... don't... don't..."

A child shushed him going past. "Be quiet, Mr. Don't."
Our neighbor two houses down got an Uber Eats delivery a bit after 6, when official hours had started but before we had any customers, so I walked over and gave him a treat bag after he completed his delivery.
This year my outfit had pockets so I started keeping some treat bags on me for the kids who *really* didn't want to walk through the spooky yard to the spooky house.

Cut short a lot of awkward scenes of parents trying to cajole them.

Movie where the woman who can kill with a smile and wound with her eyes from the Billy Joel song "She's Always A Woman" is set loose and the scientists who created her are forced to let Jolene from the song "Jolene" out of cryostorage to bring her back but instead they team up.
A little behind the scenes featurette: the first draft of that tweet described her as "the woman who is always a woman to Billy Joel from the Billy Joel song 'She's Always A Woman'"
but I felt that missed out on several key points.

A thing about the ideas wrapped up in the rubric of "passing" and trans women being "male coded" or "female coded" is it assumes such a narrow view of womanhood.

I pass really well because (my personal style notwithstanding), everybody knows cis women with my shape.
In a situation where people know I'm trans or are looking for trans and gender-non-conforming people, I immediately "pass" less well because people switch which cues and markers they look for.
But otherwise? Offline and outside of queer-heavy circles, Ic can pass all day, every day. I "accidentally passed" so much before my transition, including once in an emergency room, in a men's dress shirt and tie, while seeking medical attention for a dislocated shoulder.

It's been a while since I had a random encounter with someone who obviously assumed we were archenemies or something.
Doing mathface to figure out when I was even talking about mansplaining and communism.
I just... mostly out of slightly amused bemusement... searched my tweets between October 27th and October 30th to see if I made some aside comment somewhere that could have been referenced by the message. Nope. Whatever she's talking about is more than three days old.

AU idea I've been toying with writing, kinda blurry on the details. Might take me a while to type it all out since I'm kind of preoccupied atm

NurseConnor gets hired by Hank because he needs extra help taking care of Cole.
Being Lieutenant and on the homicide division leaves him with unpredictable hours, and he feels bad having to call his neighbors at 2 or 4 in the morning if he gets called in, especially with Coles unpredictable condition and with the type of care he requires.
Cole is epileptic, has been since he was a baby, and Hank's ex-wife is less than helpful when it comes to helping her husband and caring for her son. Hank just wants someone to be with Cole when he can't, in case there's an emergency.

I’ve got an hour before work and a copy of the preliminary hearing transcript from Tyreek Hill’s 2014 case. Several people have asked me for my thoughts so I’m going to read through it and live tweet as I go. First, let’s talk about what a preliminary hearing is:
A prelim is like a mini-trial. Essentially, the State has to put on enough evidence to show that the case is good enough to go to trial. The State must show that there is *probable cause* that a crime was committed by the defendant. Contrast this with a trial, where the State...
...must prove the elements of the crime *beyond a reasonable doubt.* We don’t get to put numbers on this stuff in our profession, but PC is approximately 51% proof, whereas BARD is more like 95% proof. It’s very easy to win a prelim, much much easier than winning a trial.
