Exxon’s scientists knew that climate change was real decades ago. They could've shared their science with the public. Instead, they and the fossil fuel industry launched a decades-long campaign to cover up the facts and deceive government regulators and the American people.
Industry players and their allies also knowingly submit false and misleading information to regulatory agencies, giving right-wing judges the chance to later use their junk science as an excuse to invalidate regulations.
My plan prevents companies like Exxon from using industry-funded fake research to mislead federal regulators and strike down regulations in court. And if they knowingly lie, we'll treat them the same way the law treats anyone who lies in court—by prosecuting them for perjury.
