So, a cute and funny story about one of my cats, Tony Tomorrow.
I have in my room a great big mirror set in the door of a wardrobe. Tony, upon discovering it, used to things like rear up in front of it, and then duck down quickly, and approach it from the side and peer in, etc.
I have in my room a great big mirror set in the door of a wardrobe. Tony, upon discovering it, used to things like rear up in front of it, and then duck down quickly, and approach it from the side and peer in, etc.
I thought *she* thought that it was another cat and she was trying to sneak up on it, pick a fight with it, etc. And maybe she did think that at first!
Then one day, I was lying in bed and my other cat, Tommy Tomorrow, was on the foot of the bed, looking at me. I looked in the mirror and saw Tony, on the floor, looking at the mirror.
Tony looked at Tommy's reflection in the mirror, then turned and launched a flying sneak attack on the real Tommy, who she wouldn't have been able to see from her position.
So, yes. Tony understood the principle of the reflection. All of that playing with the mirror had enabled her to figure out how what she was looking at related to the physical space on her side of the mirror.
Tommy, for her part, still gets in fights with her own tail and loses.
